After a very long day of waiting and watching and checking, I am proud to say that Honey did not need me at all! She was in a steady, constant state of labor from 6:30 am until the wee hours of the morning. At 3:30 am, I woke and went to the barn and in my foggy state saw one body and 2 heads. WHAT? Oh shew, there are two babies in here. I guessed a boy and girl by the sizes and I was right! They also share a birthday with one of a set of twins who are very good friends of ours. Jacob and Joshua! Happy Birthday Jake (today) and Josh (tomorrow)! Off to have some fun with our friends and play with babies. What a great day!
Oh and these are a Purebred Nubian doe crossed with a Purebred Nigerian Dwarf Buck for a 1st Generation cross of mini-nubian. More information can be found here:
Miniature Dairy Goat Association and here
MiniNubians. This is an experiment and our first babies out of this cross. We love our Nubians and Nigerian Dwarves but think that if the minis can produce the milk we are looking for, the size is perfect!

| Waiting and watching. The children always were full of questions and I almost think that Honey was annoyed with us being there and all the chatter. |
 |
| By 10:30pm, I was done for the day and went to bed. I had this feeling all day that she really didn't want us around and when I came in with light, she looked at it, looked at me and with her eyes said, "I've got this, really you can go now." At 3:30am, I shot out of bed and went to check and there they were. Still a bit crusty from being licked but were nursing and doing all bodily functions that normal newborns do! |
 |
| Honey is very tired. It was a long day. I know how she feels as my husband reminded me that I also labored long and steady like she did! |
 |
| Those airplane ears!!! We knew that a First Gen. cross would most-likely be this way. |
 |
| Nameless and cold ;). They needed sweaters! The doe weighed in at just over 6 pounds and the buck just over 8! Neither is shy at the food source! |
 |
| A bit timid to pick them up at first. |
 |
| Quickly getting over that, they see that the doe has her father's beautiful blue eyes! |
 |
| She is so gentle and easy to pick up while the buck is loud like his father! |
 |
I love you mama!
Great job Honey! I am so proud of you and even though I did not get to witness the birth I thank God for your good health and precious new lives you bring to our farm!
Blessings on this new and beautiful day, Tracey |

Oh, my goodness...we NEED to get some mammals soon, or it'll be ME having another baby! haha! Love the colours of your new twins. And the sweaters! Amazing. Did you make them?? I'm always impressed with how mammals birth in the animal kingdom...generally alone, quietly, and without a whole lot of fuss or intervention. We humans would be wise to take note!
Oh Tracey they are just precious! We had baby chicks that hatched yesterday so it seems new life is everywhere. Congratulations to Honey Goat.
Oh I totally know what you mean about filling the want of more babies with animal babies. It has worked for me ;). I didn't make the sweaters, found them in the animal section of a store. They are for small dogs. I have seen tutorials for making them either knitted or from a felted sweater. I may do so in the future just for variety ;).
Tracey, congrats on your chicks. I LOVE SPRING!

Ok, you have us beat. We've never put sweaters on our kid babies!! That is too cute. Are you going to milk Honey now? I have a bee question for you, about making a hive split. Have fun with the new babies. God bless
